Yelawolf is swell

Damn.

He is Legend rule me. Last CD wasn’t as good as their previous two, and i hope they don’t break up.

Another late night is on the cards toiling away, fighting the good fight

Executive Decision made

Went with the Walkman, as seen here

8gb, colour screen, satin and gloss black finish, tidy finish and practical menu layout. Not to mention well priced at under $150. Hard to beat that for a quality brand

Could have got some rank no-name touch screen thing for the same price, but my shit gets beaten up, so it had to last. Is it strange that an Ipod was never really in contention? Overpriced, ugly Nanos, and obscenely overpriced, fragile Touch’s. You figure it out

Hooray for music. A bunch of random stuff will be thrown on this in time for a long, boring and likely demeaning day at tec tomorrow.

Theft

My Iriver got stolen from my car last week. I’d had that for two years and it was a gift from my Father, whom I rarely see. It’s been with me through all my studies and helped me through the 18 hour days and 100+ hour weeks that characterised them. It had music on it that I’ve had for close to ten years in a digital format, and photos of long since gone friends.

Needless to say, I was wild with anger.

Having tempered my rage, my mind turned to a replacement, and thus, this post.

Iriver seems to have disappeared somewhat from the market here, which is unfortunate. They were well priced and well featured.

No matter, Sony Walkmans have caught my eye. I’ve always dug Sony products, and though they may not be as “intuitive” or “gay” as Ipods, they appeal to me, as I’m aware of Sony quality, and not a lot of people roll them, which is a definate plus.

$150, 4gb. I listen to a VERY select amount of music. I don’t need storage

Hol the phone, found iriver. Clean design, unsure of pricing. Certainly look the part.

Then there’s the iPod touch. 8gb, $300 plus. Can’t really justify it, especially when people will assume I’m a cunt. Excuse the language, but you know what I mean

Of course, I’m not concerned about perceptions, moreso with technology. I’m a firm believer that the “wank factor” drives Ipod prices up. Sure looks rather sexual though.

Samsung and Toshiba also have a few offerings, but I’m yet to peruse said goods. I’d appreciate any thoughts on this matter, particularly from those with experience.

Dallas Green is a talent unmatched

I listen to this song ten times a day. Goodness washed down with choice. Perfect for the end of a long day, drink in hand, sun setting…

Dirty, dirty, dirty Southern Rock

It seems I’m covering a lot of music of late, but I feel this entry is worthy, without doubt.

I’ve been a fan of metal/hardcore/hard rock since growing out of punk in early 2004. I spent a lot of time surrounded by hardcore scene kids, even living with one in a soon-to-be-demolished house after leaving school. They introduced me to the music, and whilst I couldn’t bring myself to embrace the comical haircuts or meaningless self-diagnosed depressing attitudes that are rampant in that scene, the tunes stayed.

At first it was centred around the hard-hardcore (to me anyway), such as local, and now defunct, heros, 21 guns, as well as the likes of Terror and New Yorkers Sick of it All. Around 2006, my friend Jesse showed me a band named Every Time I Die, hailing from Buffalo, with kick ass attitudes and music that made me want to party.

They play what is typically considered Dirty Southern Rock ‘n’ Roll. Listening to it, there isn’t much of what most would consider rock ‘n’ roll in there, but I suppose progression does that. Perhaps not progression, just diverting from the well-travelled trail.

The Crew. Sans ratboy, the dude at the back right

These dudes have a now-huge following, in part I feel, for their ability to make music that makes you want to flip your woman the bird, get in your American steel and hit Vegas for the weekend. They recently played live in Auckland, a gig I attended. Onstage, Keith kicked so much ass I almost fainted from the sudden influx of dudeication. He got the entire room to start a massive circle pit, which I wholeheartedly got into, then stopped the music due to the pit not being big enough.

We started again, and I was dragging everyone I could in, at full pace. Girls were eating shit, kids were crying, my shoes flew off into the crowd and Keith adored it. As a note, someone threw my shoe back and hit me square on the nose.

The Man, the Myth, the Maverick- Keith Buckley

They’re about to release a new album, and it’s getting a lot of people excited, my self included. It’s to be titled “New Junk Aesthetic”, and it sounds to be a goodin’. their last effort (Gutter Phenomenon) changed my perception of good music, and this latest offering looks like it has the potential to blast my pants clean off

Jordan did the cover art, and is actually a super-talented artist. Check him on myspace.

Anyway, here’s some of their old and new stuff. Thanks youporn/tube

The Euphio Question/AOF/City and Colour

Possibly my favourite song of all time (massive call) is Happiness by the Kilowatt by Alexisonfire/City and Colour. It’s fucking haunting as shit and raw as all hell. Great heartbreak music, if you’re that way inclined. I’ve always wondered what inspired it, and recently found out that it is a short story called “The Euphio Question” by Kurt Vonnegut. It’s essentially about the perils of “buying happiness”, but I definately pick up an anti-drug vibe which is okay by me. The song seemed to carry an anti-marriage sentiment, especially the first half. Anyway, here’s some links to the songs, and to a copy of the story.

The Euphio Question

Can I just say, girls love the City and Colour version. Like all of them. Woo that shit up. Learn it on keyboard and get amongst. I prefer the AOF version, only just.

The deal with City and Colour is Dallas Green, lead singer of Alexisonfire (AOF) decided to do an offshoot of his own. Of course the name is attributed to his own, that being Dallas (City) Green (Colour). He does a bit of folksy stuff, fairly run of the mill, but his voice is weird. I really dig it. He’s huge in the States and Canada, but hardly known here in NZ, which is a pity. There’s a lot of noise about him being the most important musician in the last ten years or so. I dunno about that, and I’m sure he doesn’t give a fuck.

Buy his shit.

P.S. I was on a sabbatical/my internets is being gheyz

The one thing you can count on in the world of automotive blogs is the appearance of hip-hop music videos. They’re everywhere. I’m starting to wonder if people even like the music, or if they just post them to be like all the other blogs out there?

Either way, I’m not a hip-hop sort of a guy. I like my music fast, brash and dirty, the kinda stuff that makes Mothers hold their hands over their daughters ears, the kinda jams that make you wanna skoll a bottle of whiskey, slam a pack of cigarettes and party till dawn

The one band that is guaranteed to get me going everytime, is He is Legend. They’ve been around a few years, and have a number of albums to their name. They have never been a generic sounding sort of a band (unusual for metal/hardcore), but every release is different to their last. They keep themselves and their sound fresh.

Change for the sake of change is weak. Case-in-point, Thrice. The only valid reason to start making changes is to improve, which is precisely what HIL are all about. They’ve recently relased their 4th album, “It Hates You”, to much fanfare. Possibly the most anticipated album in this genre for sometime, and they’ve delivered something unreal.

The first two links are off the latest album, the third is their most popular song, “I Am Hollywood”, of the album of the same name. A lot rougher, a lot harder. Enjoy
