Oh we laughed

So “modernist” it hurts. If I were to be labelled anything, I suppose Modernist is most fitting. Clean lines, material focussed, edgy. Good

My god, that is a ship and then some. How distinctive is that? Wally Yachts, Darth Vader’s choice in seafaring.

Digging Richard Neutra’s Architecture as of late also. Very interesting.

Thanks to designfolio.co.nz for the inspiration

Light creeps into the room. Eyelids creek open again. Arm and that thing called a hand slams down on alarm clock. The cycle of self-destruction starts again. Until my next precious few hours of sleep, this is it.

Eyes are heavy 24/7, coffee is my main source of sustenance.

Days blur in and out, friends are lost in a mist of A2 sheets and broken lead. Headaches remind when it’s been too long. Countless scraps of calculations and sketches litter the floor and my mind. Bank account grows as social life shrinks and dies. 24/7 service station lights shielded by a shaking hand from my bleary eyes. Blue and red  bounce around the darkened room from six-til-six

Inspiration is the constantly-open tab of The Fountainhead quotes. Roark is the goal, hard work and high standards are the road I travel.

A constant battle against the second-handers intent on taking my hour-upon-hour of work as their own. Plans hastily stashed under tabletops, windows minimised at the last second… Faux-encouragment directed their way. Resentment rising.

Come the 21st of June, I will be rid of the blanket of my final set of building documentation. The word docs of plans will begin to come to fruition. The healthy bank account will be torn from it’s slumber. The number of ideas, projects and plans I have to share are many. Pay rise awaits, full-time work, my own place, new car, new project, travel… The countdown is at 1

Fucking sick cars. Few links in there to whet your appetite.

Working on a sweet post. Bit of a thinker

The car of the moment?

Goes to show how crucial being low is

I’m not going to gush over this thing. I’ll leave that to the rest of the internet. I’m here to look at this example of fandom-causing automobilia objectively, which I’ll keep to myself. I hope Mr Akaishi doesn’t mind me using his photo. Any man worth his life is never too proud to have his work considered by others.

It intrigues me how infatuated others can be with the opinions of the world. It shouldn’t matter, why should it? It’s not even as simple as the now-over-used concept of doing what you want. You don’t, and shouldn’t need to be told that.

To quote a great man,  Howard Roark, to a foul man, Ellsworth Toohey, who shared only one thing with Mr Roark, their lack of existence. This is upon being asked by Mr Toohey what Mr Roark thought of him.

“Mr. Roark, we’re alone here. Why don’t you tell me what you think of me in any words you wish.”
But I don’t think of you”

It’s the things we love and desire that enslave us. Don’t let those things be determined by the opinions of others.

The car looks fantastic, there is no doubt, but does it deserve the accolades it has recieved? Has there been a great feat of engineering involved? Does it do something new and innovative? No. But then the owner hasn’t claimed it does. It exists in it’s own right.

It’s only a car. You’re a person, capable of such greatness your mind likely doesn’t know of it. Reserve your admiration

I’ve been into scale models of varying types for as long as I can remember.

As a kid, my Grandmother would gift my brother and I with powered Tamiya depictions of F1 cars, as well as the obligatory standard breed of mini-4wd that every male child in NZ of the last 15 years has played with.

These were the suckers to have at around the age of 9-12. Although there were proper racetracks in most towns, we used to race them on the tennis courts at school. It got so intense at one stage, that we had “teams”, where we would pool our pocket money to get upgrades for our cars.I sided with the rich kid at school, so our cars were the business. Once a Capitalist eh?

My first version was the Evo Top Force. Stock everything and it got wailed on by most of the other kids. I upgraded to a Hyper-dash motor and better batteries but I wanted a newer model.

I saved my pennies, and got my beloved Spin Axe. This thing was the one. I removed the 4wd shaft, got the “white-top” motor, slammed some lithium batteries in and was untouchable. My team-mate got his mum to buy some aero upgrades, and we were the team to beat. I eventually let my little brother join us with his Magnum Saber but as time passed, we grew out of it.

Top Force! Complete with engrish on the rear wing! Impressive Numbers!

My beloved Spin Axe. Christ it was ugly.

Sonic Saber, the one to have as a twelve year old

Around this time, I got into the actual scale-modelling scene. My friend at school was obsessed with jets, and had a hearty collection of plastic kits at home. I soon joined him, and eventually overtook him as the local authority on jet fighters. He loved the F14 Tomcat, while I adored the Panavia Tornado.

Tornado. Not a fan of the paintwork, I was all about the grey drab, straight Thatcher stz

As I got older and bcame interested in cars, my sub-interest of scale models followed suit. Of course I try to modify them all to look lower and wider, but it rarely comes off right as I have few tools and less patience. Here’s my latest work in progress, a C110 GTR slammed on XR4s. I love the colours.

Plenty of work left on it, I’ll likely finish it in the next year. I’ve had it since the start of 2007, shame

Wellington

Off to Wellington tonight to pick my broseph up. he’s rigging off to Canadialandsville with his lovely girlfriend, and needs a hand etc.

Will try snap some photos of the trip, it’s an interesting drive. The terrain changes immensely; from the lush paddocks of the Waikato, to the cold stark plains of the Desert Road, and finally the metropolitan city that I <3

I love blogs. I have around 20 on my favourites list that I check daily, but of course most don’t update anywhere enough for my liking. I enjoy two facets of them. The first, and primary aspect, is having an insight into like-minded individual’s lives.

I like being able to see when Chris of Beeoneoneoh gets a new set of wheels for his wee truck, or when the guys at C’s garage find a way to slam their S chassis’ even further. It’s inspiring to see other projects progressing, and keeps me amped on my own. It also highlights just how shit I have it in terms of the ability to do any major work myself, but that’s another story altogether. Seeing, in their own words, how someone with similar interests goes about performing seemingly mundane tasks is fun. Even their off-hand remarks about stops to a parts store or getting gas are interesting to me. I’m guessing it’s the same the world over? Maybe I’m a loser, both are likely.

Mr Beeoneoneoh with Mrs Beeoneoneoh. Possibly my favourite blog out there. Well laid out page, superb photos, awesome project and great coverage. Click ze links scattered around to get there and get in there.

The second aspect of blogs I find alluring is the base desire to see awesome shit. I am mildly infatuated with being different, whilst still being part of a trend, if that makes sense. The way I see it, is a trend develops from previous trends, and then sub-sets of trends develop outward, like a trees branches, reaching all parts of the community. I want to be part of one of those sub-groups, but the forefront.

Thereby, I love seeing where things are going, fashion and automotive in particular.

Anyone who has an interest in diminuitive older Japanese vehicles knows that small wheels are where it’s at. I believe offset is the real winner, as do the guys at HellaFlush. Having some full guards, horizontally that is, makes any vehicle look intensely sweet, in my view

This is what I’m talking about. I feel offset is key, others say dish. I like a small amount of dish, others want full face, while others say 5″ minimum. I like rolled lips, others adore bolt on flares. I say slam it as far as you can, others want driveability, lol. Thus, blogs are awesome, because they give such a diverse range of amazing stuff from many minds, but typically can be grouped into sub-trends. Which is perfect cos it means I have plenty of these sorts of pictures to make my eyes glaze over
